Sometimes, the plays that look the best on the whiteboard look awful in game action.

Other times, it doesn't even matter how the play appears aesthetically. In the end, it just manages to work out exactly how you drew it up.

That's precisely what happened to Nebraska tonight on what was the Cornhuskers' first touchdown of the 2023 season and the Matt Rhule era.

On 2nd-and-9 from the Minnesota 39 early in the third quarter, Nebraska called a trick play.

Quarterback Jeff Sims pitched to running back Anthony Grant moving right and proceeded to slip away to the left side of the field.

Grant threw a backwards pass to Sims, but the Georgia Tech transfer couldn't bring it in, resulting in a loose ball bouncing taking a couple of bounces.

Sims eventually scooped up the rock, gathered himself and fired downfield to wide receiver Alex Bullock, who was wide open in the end zone for six points.

Talk about taking it however you can get it.
