Liam Hendriks Records First Save Since Beating Cancer

Liam Hendriks did something quite remarkable. The Chicago White Sox pitcher beat cancer (non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma) to return to the game he loves.

On Tuesday, in the White Sox victory over the New York Yankees at Yankees Stadium, Hendriks recorded the save to help the team capture the 3-2 win.

It's Hendriks' first save since returning from his battle with cancer after the 34-year-old struck out Yankees center field Isiah Kiner

-Falefa in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the White Sox the first game of the series.

The All-Star reliever returned to the mound in late May and has since worked back into the swing of things.

A few days ago, Hendriks recorded his first win since returning on National Cancers Survivors Day to help the White Sox earn the series sweep over the Detroit Tigers.

Hendriks' story will inspire people dealing with cancer nationwide to keep fighting.

“That’s one thing that’s pretty special,” Hendriks told reporters. “As soon as you get diagnosed, you are considered a survivor.
