Georgia Football Mourning Loss Of University Legend Sonny Seiler

Sonny Seiler, the patriarch who owned the lineage of Georgia football's "Uga" mascots, died Monday.

Georgia announced that Seiler passed away from an illness in his hometown of Savannah. He was 90 years old.

The football program mourned his loss on social media.

"We are saddened to learn of the passing of Georgia Legend, Sonny Seiler," the team said.

Seiler began a long-running tradition by bringing his English Bulldog to a football game with his wife, Cecelia, in 1956.

They've raised many dogs used as school mascots over the years.

Seiler received his B.B.A. and J.D. degrees from Georgia before becoming an attorney. He was the lead defense counsel in the Jim Williams murder trials.
