Pete Alonso never had much of a chance to win his third Home Run Derby.

The annual All-Star competition now deploys a head-to-head bracket. Unfortunately for Alonso, he drew Julio Rodriguez as a first-round opponent.

Rodriguez set a new Derby record by hitting 41 home runs in the opening round.

Alonso needed to make history to advance, but he fell considerably short with 21 long balls.
