Cause Of Death Announced For UNLV Football Player Ryan Keeler

Officials in Las Vegas revealed the cause of death for UNLV football player Ryan Keeler, who passed away in February.

Keeler, 20, died of a fatal arrythmia caused by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a thickening of the heart muscle, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Keeler was found unresponsive in his apartment on Feb. 20 due to the fatal irregular heartbeat. His death was ruled natural.

A native of Chicago, Keeler began his college career at Rutgers in 2021

After redshirting, he transferred to UNLV, where the 6-foot-6,

275-pound defensive lineman appeared in seven games last fall and finished with eight tackles and one sack.

According to reports back in February, Keeler had complained of nausea and feeling sick in the days leading up to his death.

His UNLV teammates honored his memory during the program's annual spring game in April, gathering for a chant of "47 on me 47 on 3" to wrap up the afternoon.

UNLV head coach Barry Odom remembered Keeler at the time of his passing as "an incredible person, student and teammate."
